DEERFIELD, Ill. - A five-minute scoring drought in the first period put Trinity International behind early, and despite finding their offensive rhythm later in the game were unable to rally back, falling to the Holy Cross Saints 68-52, Saturday afternoon inside Van Dixhorn Arena.

After a pair of field goals from
Nika Bracun and
Sarina Falvo made it a 6-4 lead for Holy Cross (3-5, 2-0 CCAC), the Trojans went 0-for their next-7, giving the Saints the chance to take an 11-0 run that included three straight three-pointers. Trinity (2-4, 0-2 CCAC) recovered to score six straight but would close out the first period trailing 21-10.
Marlou Peters would open the second period with one of her six field goals on the day, cutting the deficit to nine, but a layup-and-foul on Holy Cross' next possession put the Saints back up by double-digits. The Saints would go up by as much as 17 after another and-1 score, 37-20 with 2:50 left to play in the first half. A fast-break layup from Falvo, and an offensive putback from Peters finished out the scoring before the break, 37-24, with Peters carrying the offense by scoring eight first-half points.
Rayelle Ross opened the third period with a bucket to trip the Saints' lead down to 11, but Holy Cross would again respond, using a 7-0 run to build a 44-26 advantage at the 6:32 mark. Peters would lead Trinity with five points in the third period, including the last score with :12 on the clock to make it a 52-37 ballgame.
A pair of free throws from Falvo to open the fourth trimmed the lead down to 13 again, but the Trojans were never able to get back to within single digits. A three-pointer inside of two minutes remaining would give Holy Cross their largest lead of the day at 65-45.
Falvo and Peters each led the Trojans with 13 points apiece, a new season-high for Peters, who finished 6-for-9 from the field.  Freshman Brooklyn Robertson collected a career-high nine rebounds to lead Trinity.Â
The Trojans are back in action at Van Dixhorn Arena this Tuesday night, when they host the Judson Eagles beginning at 5:30 p.m.
