Women's Basketball earn road win over Maranatha Baptist

WATERTOWN, Wisc. - A big rally in the second period turned the tide, as Trinity International earned a 64-53 victory on the road Tuesday night against the Maranatha Baptist (Wisc.) Sabercats.

Box Score | Season Stats

Senior guard JaToya Woods led all scorers with 16 points in the win, while Marlou Peters collected 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Sarina Falvo nearly recorded the double-double, picking up nine points and nine rebounds.

Both sides traded the lead back and forth in the opening minutes, until a 10-0 run in favor of the home team put Maranatha (8-9) in front 13-4 with 4:08 remaining in the first period. The Trojans (8-18) rallied however, closing the period with six straight points - two each from Peters, Nika Bracun, and Arielle Miree - to cut the deficit to three points at the end of the first, 15-12.

Down by five midway through the second, a pair of Falvo free throws started a run of 17 straight points for Trinity, closing the period on a 19-2 run over the final five minutes. The Trojans would head into the locker room with a 35-23 halftime lead, with a balanced attack of seven players with at least one first-half field goal.

The Trojans' lead would reach 17 points on Peters' layup with 4:43 to play in the third period, 46-29. A three-pointer from MBU's Stacey Reinke with 3:42 remaining in the fourth quarter would highlight a rally that cut TIU's lead to single digits, 58-50, but Maranatha would run out of time to complete the comeback.

Trinity returns to Van Dixhorn Arena on Saturday night to celebrate Senior Night. The team will face Robert Morris in the final game of the season, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
