CHICAGO, Ill. – Grant Corsi scored a career-high 35 points, the most for any Trinity International player this season, as the Trojans rolled to a 107-77 win over the Roosevelt Lakers on the road Saturday afternoon.
Box Score | Season StatsCorsi finished with a 15-for-23 performance from the field, knocking down the highest number of field goals in a single game for TIU since the 2006-07 season.
Zach Kirschbaum picked up his CCAC-leading 12th double-double, with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while
Luke Mead and
James Glass each contributed 13 points apiece.
"We played as well as we have all season on the offensive end, which is very difficult to do against a team that I consider one of the toughest in the league," said head coach
Boomer Roberts after the win. "I loved out mental and physical toughness for the first 35 minutes. It's no surprise to me that Grant played that well, because he had a great week of practice."
The Trojans (16-10, 9-8 CCAC) led wire to wire, as Corsi scored the first five points of the game during Trinity's 7-0 run to start the day. TIU would go up by as much as 19 points in the first half, on one of Corsi's four three-pointers at the 9:05 mark, 36-17. Roosevelt responded with an 11-1 run of their own to get back into the game, but the Trojans would score the final eight points of the half to go into the locker room with a 56-38 advantage.
Roosevelt closed the gap to 14 on Joshua Dillinghams' jumper at the 15:42 mark, 62-48, but six quick points on the next three trips down the floor for TIU would end the rally.
"Not only did we limit our turnovers, but we really shared the ball," said Roberts. "Zach and James continue to be incredibly efficient, with 29 points on 17 shots, and they led the charge to dominate the paint. Our bench was terrific as well, just a total team effort. I'm fired up about the week we had, and I think we are still hungry to get better."
With three home games remaining, the Trojans return home on Wednesday night to host St. Ambrose. Tipoff against the Bees from Van Dixhorn Arena is set for 7:30 p.m.
