CHICAGO, Ill. – A balanced attack at the plate that saw three players record multi-hit games helped earn Trinity International a doubleheader split on Saturday, defeating the St. Xavier Cougars 6-3 in game one, before dropping the nightcap 4-0.

Michael Balistreri each picked up two base hits, with Balistreri hitting the lone double of the game. Freshman pitcher
Jiri Vavrusa secured his third win of the season, pitching six innings while allowing three runs and striking out two.
The Trojans jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st, when
Adam Gomski and
Jon Debowey hit back-to-back RBI singles.
Colt Foerch and Grotelueschen added to the lead in the 2nd inning, driving in two more runs to make it a 4-0 ballgame.
St. Xavier would climb back in the game with a run in the 5th and two more in the 6th, before the Trojans tacked on a pair of insurance runs to secure the win.
Justin VanderNaald's single scored Balistreri, then VanderNaald scored three hitters later, on Lindberg's RBI single to left.
Leading 6-3 in the final frame,
Zachary Haning came on, working around a pair of hits to earn his second save of the season.
In game two, St. Xavier would score in the 1st and 2nd innings to claim a 2-0 edge, as the Trojans put runners in scoring position in the 2nd, 3rd, and 6th innings but were unable to cash in. The Cougars added two more in the bottom of the 7th to increase their lead, while holding TIU without a hit the rest of the way.
Trinity returns home for a mid-week matchup with Indiana-South Bend, before facing Judson in a weekend series. The Trojans host the Titans on Wednesday, March 23 in a doubleheader beginning at 1:30.
