DEERFIELD, Ill. - In the first CCAC Tournament game inside Van Dixhorn Arena in four years, No. 11 Trinity International never let off the gas, taking a 102-72 victory over the Purdue-Northwest Pride on Tuesday night.

"Tonight was a great team effort," said TIU head coach
Boomer Roberts, after his team tied the program record with their 27th victory this season. "We forced some early turnovers, got out in transition, and shared the ball very well."
After the visitors took a small lead in the opening minutes, Trinity (27-4) took over, going on a 34-2 run that held Purdue-Northwest (13-17) to just one field goal over an 11 minute span.
Jeremy Carlyle's three-pointer at the 7:28 mark capped the run, and gave the Trojans a 37-8 advantage.
Coming out of the halftime break with a 57-30 lead, the Trojans kept the momentum to start the second half.
T.J. Johnson's dunk started a 9-2 run to open the period, which finished with a 66-32 margin in favor of the home team. Trinity maintained a 30-point lead nearly the rest of the way, going up by as much as 39 points following another three-pointer from Carlyle with just over seven minutes to play.
Five players finished in double figures, led by Carlyle's 16 points.
Greg Carlyle recorded 13 points in his first start of the season, while
Zach Kirschbaum posted 11 points and
Grant Corsi 10. Senior
Sean Smith came off the bench to tally 12 points in the win.
"We were flying around on defense, and attacked the glass," said Roberts. Trinity held their opponents to 41.5% shooting while also forcing 21 turnovers. The Trojans also held an advantage on the boards, 44-35. "We're still hungry, but it's been a great week for our program. And it's going to be 70 degrees tomorrow, so we're pretty excited."
While enjoying the warm weather, TIU will prepare for the semifinal round of the CCAC Tournament, set to take place Friday night, February 24, at Van Dixhorn Arena. The Trojans will host 3rd-seeded Calumet St. Joseph with a trip to Monday night's championship game on the line. Tipoff with the Crimson Wave is set for 7:00 p.m.
