POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. - Struggling to find their shot throughout much of the first half, No. 11 Trinity International would need a response to get back in the game with 25th-ranked Taylor (Ind.). The Trojans would go on to knock down nine three-pointers in the second half, overcoming an 18-point deficit to win 74-72, to move on to the quarterfinal round of the 2017 NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Championship.

Grant Corsi would hit the game-winning shot with 2.2 left on the clock to secure the win. Fellow senior
Zach Kirschbaum helped fuel the rally with 10 second-half points, including his 1,000th career point as a Trojan, becoming the 20th player in Trinity history to join the 1,000-point club.
"I thought our guys dug deep and really guarded in the second half. Our stops got us in transition, and we had multiple guys make big plays down the stretch. I loved our joy, love, and toughness we displayed," said TIU head coach
Boomer Roberts after the win.
Trinity (30-5) would get off to a slow start, shooting just 25.7% from the field in the first half, and 2-of-16 from three-point range. Kirschbaum, Corsi, and
Greg Carlyle led the team with four points each before the break, with Taylor holding a 37-22 advantage. The key run of the comeback started early in the second half; the Trojans would go on a 20-7 run to close the gap, highlighted by three consecutive three-pointers from senior guard
Luke Mead, and capped with another trey from
Jeremy Carlyle that gave TIU their first lead of the night.
Taylor would move back in front with a field goal from Jake Heggeland at the 8:43 mark, as the lead would change hands for less than 20 seconds, before another three-pointer from
Jeremy Carlyle put the Trojans on top for good. Keaton Hendricks tied the game 72-72 with a three for Taylor with 1:30 to play, before Corsi knocked down the game winner.
"While we are thankful for the win, the game-winning shot wasn't even the best part of our day," said Roberts. "We had a team devotional and worship session this afternoon, and it was inspiring to see what God is doing in and through our guys. Winning is great, and we really want to keep it up, but this group's purpose is deeper than that."
With the victory, the Trojans reach the 30-win mark for the first time in program history, and reach the quarterfinals of the Division II Men's Basketball National Championship for the first time ever.
Trinity will now face off against the winner of Union (Ky.) and College of Idaho on Saturday night. Tipoff from the Keeter Gymnasium is set for 7:00 p.m.
