The Monroe, N.C. native went through four-and-a-third innings before allowing his first base hit of the day, securing the win thanks to a pair of five-run rallies by the Trinity offense. The Trojans (3-3) struck first in the top of the 3rd, taking advantage of two Shipbuilder errors and scoring five times after the first two hitters of the frame were retired. Trinity added on to their lead in the 6th with another five runs, highlighted by
Michael Balistreri's two-out, two-RBI single that scored
Jeff Lindberg and
Nick Gehrt.
Balistreri and
Ethan Jarvis each went 2-for-4 at the plate in game one, while Lindberg posted a game-high three RBI in the win.
The Trojans struggled to keep the momentum at the plate rolling into game two, however, falling to the Bethel (Ind.) Pilots 10-1.
Adam Gomski went 2-for-2 as the only Trojan with multiple base hits, while
Justin VanderNaald recorded the team's lone RBI, a 6th-inning single that brought home
Matt Latimer.
Jordan Alvernaz and
Skyler Jankowski looked strong out of the bullpen, pitching one inning apiece without allowing an earned run.
The Trojans continue the 10-game Florida swing tomorrow, with a single game against The Apprentice School beginning at noon CST.
