Brandywine (1-6) rallied for six runs in the top of the first, then added another in the 3rd inning to claim a 7-0 advantage. Trinity (3-5) responded with their first two runs in the bottom of the 3rd, following a
Nick Gehrt walk and
Zach Kentner single. Gerht would later score on a Brandywine throwing error, and Kenter came home on
Adam Gomski's RBI single up the middle to make it a 7-2 score.
Three straight singles to lead off the bottom of the 5th from
Jeff Lindberg, Gomski, and
Michael Balistreri started another two-run rally for the Trojans. Gomski would later score on a groundout to bring TIU within three, 7-4 at the end of the 5th.
Trinity would leave two runners on base in both the 4th and 7th innings, but were unable to scratch across a run in either frame.
The first three hitters of the Trinity lineup - Kentner, Lindberg, and Gomski - all picked up two hits on the day, while freshman
Ethan Jarvis hit the lone extra-base hit in the game with a double in the 2nd inning.
The Trojans continue their ten-game Dodgertown run on Monday, with a day-night doubleheader against Penn State-Beaver at 9:00 a.m. CST, and Grace (Ind.) at 6:00 p.m. CST.
