DEERFIELD, Ill. - The TIU Football team could not manage much offensively on Saturday afternoon, suffering a 41-6 MSFA Division loss to St. Xavier University on Leslie Frazier Field.
It was a solid performance from the TIU defense is the opening quarter, holding the Cougars to just three points and keeping the Trojans in the game early.
Despite their strong play in the early going the Cougars offense began to fire on all cylinders, scoring a trio of touchdowns in the second quarter to eventually pull away from the Trojans.
Carter Andrade would get the Trojans on the board with a 22 yard field goal with 2:39 to go in the first half, but that was all the offense the Trojans would be able to muster.
At the beginning of the third quarter the Cougars took advantage of Trojan offensive mistakes, taking a tipped pass from the pocket 37 yards to the end zone for a pick six to take a 31-3 lead with 11:51 to play in the third quarter.
SXU added two more scores in the 4th Quarter before Andrade knocked through his second FG of the game to make it 41-6, which would be the eventual final score.
The story of the game was efficiency inside the red zone. The Cougars went 5-5 on their trips inside the 20 yard line, while the Trojans went just 2-5 with a pair of field goals, eventually deciding the game.
On defense for the Trojans,
Courtland Boucher led all players with 14 tackles, including two tackles for loss.
The Trojans will look to bounce back next weekend when they hit the road for a three game road trip, and take on Robert Morris University at 7 PM.
