DEERFIELD, Ill. - In their best offensive performance of the season the TIU Baseball closed out their first win of the season, exploding for 15 hits in a 15-13 win over Indiana University - South Bend on Friday afternoon.
In the early stages of the game the Titans got out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the 2nd inning to take a 3-0 lead. The Trojans then rallied back for the first time todfay, scoring 4 runs in the bottom half of the 2nd which was highlighted by a two run single from
Julius Torres.
The Trojans lead would not las long as the Titans rattled off 5 unanswered runs to take a 9-4 lead heading into the bottom of the 4th.
The 4th and 5th inning was the turning point for the Trojan offense, as TIU stormed back for the second time in the game to take the lead. After
Zach Kentner drove in a pair with a double,
Matt Pierson, and Mike Balistreri gave TIU their biggest lead of the game after back to back homers. Pierson found himself at the plate with the bases loaded and a 3-0 count and made no mistake with the next pitch, crushing it over the left center field wall to make it 14-9.
The Titans fought back through the final 4 innings, but the
Jordan Alvernaz was locked in on the mound and sent TIU to their first win of the season.
The Trojans will look to add to their win total tomorrow when they take on IUSBÂ for two more games in South Bend.
