DEERFIELD, Ill. - In yet another incredible performance the TIU Softball team swept Calumet St. Joseph on Tuesday, defeating the Wave 5-0 in Game 1, before the Trojans earned a come from behind 11-inning 5-4 victory in Game 2.
The opening game of the day was yet another dominant performance inside the circle from
Taylor Carli as the Junior threw a complete game shutout while allowing just 5 hits.
Trinity International woke the bats up after struggling their last few games, as it was a balanced attack at the plate for TIU.
Sara Grygus led the way with 3 RBI's while
Tenley Bozzi and
Lauren Neveau drove in runs in a 5-0 Trojan win.
In the second game of the day it was Calumet who jumped out to the early lead, taking advantage of a few Trojans errors along with timely hitting to jump out in front 3-0.
Despite not recording a hit in opening 4 innings the Trojans would not go down without a fight, roaring back with three runs in the bottom of the 6th thanks to a few CCSJ errors and a
Lauren Neveau double. After tying the game 3-3 Calumet manufactured a run in the top of the 7th after a Trojan error and a Sac Fly gave thema 4-3 lead.
With the Trojans at the plate trailing by one and down to their final out Jessica Vromam gave the Trojans life, doubling down the right field line to put the tying run in scoring position. With the game in the balance the reigning CCAC Player of the Week
Payton Carli would drive in the game tying run with an RBI single to center field to send the game to extra innings.
After 7 solid innings inside the circle from
Grace Magnuson, T. Carli was called upon yet again to shut the door and the Junior was nothing short of perfect. Throwing 4 hitless innings and setting the Trojans up with a chance to win it in the 11th.
Alyssa Doomis got things going in the bottom of the 11th, drawing a leadoff walk which was followed by an HBP and another walk to load the bases. With the bases loaded it was Carli again at the dish in a big spot and the Sophomore delivered again, driving the ball down the 3rd base line to sent the Trojans to their third walkoff win of the season.
The Trojans will step out of conference on Saturday when they travel to take on Mount Mary University in a road doubleheader before playing in the CCACÂ Tournament.
