DEERFIELD, Ill. - On a day to honor the Senior Class of 2018 the TIU Baseball team earned two hard fought victories, defeating the Maranatha Baptist Sabercats 8-0 and 12-8 on Wednesday afternoon.
In the opening game of the day the Trojans got out to an early lead and never looked back.
Jordan Alvernaz got the start on the mound, throwing 2 scoreless innings to open things up. Mike Balistreri followed Alvernaz on the mound for his first appearance of the season
After a pair of early runs from the Trojans
Matt Pierson,
Luis Henriquez, and
Sam Willis all picked up RBI's for TIU. Pierson and Henriquez drove in their runs via the long ball while Willis crushed and RBI double into the left center field gap.
With a 8-0 lead late in the game Balistreri closed things out for TIU, firing 5 shutout innings allowing just four hits to push TIU to an 8-0 win.
In game two it was the Sabercats who got out to a strong start, taking an early 4-1 lead into the bottom of the 4th inning. Despite trailing midway through the game the Trojan offense came to life thanks to Pierson and Henriquez finished with multi-hit and multi-RBI games to lead TIU to a 12-8 come from behind victory.
Julius Torres took the mound for the Trojans, throwing 5 solid innings to earn his first career win.
The Trojans will look to continue this hot streak as they host Robert Morris this coming Friday in their final home game of the season.
