BENSENVILLE, Ill. - In one of their best performances of the season the TIU Baseball team came up just short against Robert Morris University, suffering a 10-7 and 2-1 defeat to the Eagles on Saturday afternoon.
Like we've seen multiple times per year the Trojans jumped out to an early lead after taking advantage of an Eagle error followed by a Mike Balistreri single that put TIU up 2-0.
The Eagles quickly responded with five unanswered runs in their half of the first inning thanks to back to back RBI singles to end the inning.
The remainder of the game was back and forth all afternoon long, but despite trailing early the Trojans conintued to chip away at the early deficit.
Luis Henriquez continued his strong week at the plate driving in his first run of the day with a Sac Fly in the 2nd before the Trojans cut the deficit to 7-6 after an
Andrew Stout single and another Henriquez Sac Fly.
Despite the late rally the Eagles added a trio of insurance runs in the the 5th that handed the Trojans a 10-7 defeat in a hard fought game.
Game two saw Freshman Pitcher
Blake Matheny put together his best performance of the season, firing 7 solid innings, allowing just 6 hits and one earned run.
The Eagles got a pair of runs early after scoring in the 1st and 4th innings after an RBI Double as well as taking advantage of a Trojan error that made it 2-0.
Balistreri tried to play hero late in the game after driving in a run on an RBI Double, but the Trojans were unable to bring him in with two outs in the 9th as the Eagles would hold on for a 2-1 lead over the Trojans in game two.
Trinity International will wrap up their season on Monday when they travel to Lincoln, Illinois when they take on Lincoln Christian in a non-conference doubleheader.
