ROSEMONT, Ill. - On the second day of the 2018 CCAC Softball Conference Tournament the TIU Softball team had another solid day, earning a 10-0 win over Trinity Chrisitan before suffering a 7-4 hard fought defeat to St. Xavier to end the day.
In their opening game of the day TIU came storming out of the gates,.scoring 6 runs in the first two innings of the game.
Payton Carli connected on her 5th Home run of the season, setting the tone for the Trojans offense who was stellar all game long.
After going up by 6 through two innings TIU added four out the more after triples from
Emily Doomis, and
Jessica Vroman put the Trojans up for good.
Taylor Carli picked up yet another win for TIU, her 18th inside the circle for TIU this season.
After the win earlier in the day TIU continued on in the winners bracket and matched up with #5 seeded St. Xavier. The Cougars, one of the best pitching teams in the CCAC had not allowed a hit through 20 innings of play through the early going of the tournament.
SXU jumped out to an early lead in the 1st, scoring four runs on 5 hits to put TIU in an early hole.
Despite being down early the Lady Trojans continued to battle throughout the game, but the early lead and insurance runs throughout the game proved to be too much for TIU to overcome. Trinity International loaded the bases in the 7th but couldn't push a run across, losing 7-4 to SXU.
The Trojans will now drop to the losers bracket and play the winner of Olivet Nazarene and St. Francis tomorrow morning at 10 AM.
