WHITING, Ind. - In one of their most dominant performances of the season the TIU Men's Basketball team cruised to an 86-45 win over (RV) Calumet St. Joseph on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore
Nate Schmidt put on a clinic for the Trojans, finishing with a career high 27 points after going 9-16 from beyond the three point line.
Brandon Lawani, and
Jeremy Carlyle each picked up a double-double in the victory, setting the tone for TIU on both ends of the floor.
The Trojans opened the game with a 15-0 run, and never looked back. It was the strong shooting performance from TIU that was the difference Saturday afternoon. TIU would shoot a season high 58% from the field, while going 46% from long range.
"I am so proud of this team," said Head Coach
Todd Abernethy. "It all started oin defense for us as we did a great job in both our man and zone defense."
"Offensively, we shared the ball and shot it really well. Our goal before the game was to have 20+ assists and 7+ kills (3 stops in a row on defense). We accomplished both of these goals as we finished with 20 assists and 10 kills." added Abernethy.
"It is a real joy to see this team play for each other and persevere through all of the adversity we've faced. We are just getting started."
TIU will look to make it three CCAC wins in a row when they travel to South Bend, Indiana to take on the IUSB Titans on Wednesday afternoon.
