BOURBONNAIS, Ill. --- The Trinity International University Trojan men's soccer team took on the Olivet Nazarene Tigers on a chilly afternoon on Wednesday. The Trojans, looking for a win in order to stay in contention for postseason play, but knew they would be taking on a Tigers team that would be a difficult challenge to handle.
TIU started strong with 18 shots in the first half, and found the back of the net after a corner kick deflected off of Zach Mawdsley for an own goal to give the Tigers the opening lead in the 19th minute.Â
The half would end 1-0 giving the Trojans an opportunity to make corrections, but the second half would be more of the same when the Tigers found a through ball in to find Thomas Barboza in the 48th minute, where he found the back of the next to go ahead 2-0.Â
The Trojans saw some life after a long ball played down the line found Luka Eric taking a perfect touch past goalkeeper Britten Wolff and finding the open net to give the Trojans some energy with their first goal in the 62nd minute.Â
After the Trojans saw that opportunity, the Tigers would quickly respond with another goal from Barboza just two minutes later to increase the scoring back to a two goal deficit. Barboza would find another finish in the 71st minute after taking a long run with the ball and moving past multiple Trojans to find the bottom corner past TIU goalkeeper Daniel Hill for Barboza's third goal of the match to complete the 4-1 win over TIU.
The Trojans return home to host the Judson University Eagles on Saturday, October 26 for their final home match of the season at 2:30PM at Schartner Field.
