BANNOCKBURN, Ill. --- The Trinity International University men's basketball team took on the Roosevelt University Lakers on Wednesday night in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action at Van Dixhorn Arena.
The Trojans jumped out to a fast start behind the sharp shooting of Nate Schmidt and Ron Pehka, who scored TIU's first nine points from beyond the arc. TIU would have a phenomenal night from the field, completing 57% of their shots, while holding the Lakers to 43%.
With Thadeous Johnson controlling the lane, and Schmidt and Pehka attacking from the outside, TIU built an early lead that they would carry into the halftime break, leading 47-35. The strong play continued in the second half with Pehka finding his shot from mid-range, and John Hiltibran finding his way through the paint for six points. The Trojans would end the night with 12 three-point baskets, and a 17 point cushion as they rolled to first CCAC win of the season, 91-74.
Pehka led the Trojans with a game-high 24 points, shooting five-of-seven baskets from downtown, as well as five assist. Johnson would also notch a double-double of 20 points and ten rebounds in the win, while Brandon McQueen headlined the defense for TIU with seven steals.
The Trojans return to action on Saturday, November 23 as they travel to Davenport, Iowa to take the St. Ambrose Fighting Bees. Tip off is set for 3:00 PM.
