BANNOCKBURN, Ill. —- The TIU Lady Trojans took on the Wolves of Cardinal Stritch on Tuesday afternoon in their final game of the 2019 regular season. This game would make a difference for both teams coming into the day with seeding for the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament still to be determined for both teams.
The game started out with the Wolves possessing a lot of the ball and the Trojans not seeing much attacking pressure. CSU would see multiple goals the half, starting in the 19th minute as Elena Martinez hit a ball from the top of the box and into the left corner of the goal past Trojans goalkeeper Rebecca Wells. Just minutes later in the 28th minute, Carolina Branas would crack a shot from about 40 yards from goal and beat Wells just under the bar to put the wolves up 2-0. The Wolves weren't done as a corner kick just a minute later set them up 3-0 when a header from Sabinha Uyaner hit off a defender and went off the post and into the goal.
The first half was all Wolves, controlling most possession and outshooting the Trojans 8-1. The second half would have more possession by Cardinal Stritch, and many substitutions by the Trojans would deny the Wolves from having many more shots, except for in the 63rd minute when Mia Bedarf would hit a shot from about 30 yards out and would go just over freshman goalkeeper Sarah Davis to put the Wolves up 4-0.
The Trojans could not find a way to respond as the match would end 4-0. The loss ends the regular season for TIU with an overall record of 8-8-1, and a conference mark of 6-4-1.
TIU clinches the seventh-seed for the CCAC Tournament, and will take on a familiar opponent in the tournament's opening round this Friday, November 8 as they visit the second-seeded Trinity Christian Trolls in Palos Heights. The Trojans defeated TCC back on October 9 when the Trolls were ranked 17th in the nation. Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM.
