Stellar defensive night leads Lady Trojans past Saints

NOTRE DAME, Ind. --- The Trinity International University women's basketball team took on the Holy Cross College Saints on Monday night in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action. Entering Monday's game on a two-game losing skid, TIU looked to snap their streak with a win over a quality opponent.

After a slow start offensively, the Trojans, who scored only 16 points in the first period, put on a defensive clinic as they shut down the Saints en route to a 79-64 win. TIU gave up 14 points to Holy Cross in the second quarter, but then held their opponents to just nine points in the third, and 19 in the fourth.

The Trojans were freshman guard Taylor Hibicke, who scored 24 points, and also posted three rebounds and an assist in the win. In 29 minutes off the bench, Krystal Walker notched 11 points, as well as five rebounds, while Kassandra Ybarra recorded a double-double with 10 points and ten board, nine coming on defense.

In addition to their stellar defensive performance, TIU had an excellent shooting night, shooting 45% from the field and 86% from the free throw line. Holy Cross was held to just 37% on the night from the floor.

With the win, the Trojans improve their overall record to 6-6 on the year, and 3-4 in CCAC play. TIU returns to action on Thursday, December 5 as they host the Lincoln Christian University Lions at 5:00PM at Van Dixhorn Arena.
