CHICAGO, Ill. - After struggling offensively last week the TIU Baseball team looked to bounce back on the road vs. St. Xavier, but a hot hitting Cougar team handed the Trojans a pair of losses on Saturday, falling 20-1 and 10-5 to SXU.
In the opening game of the day the Trojans found themselves in an early hole they could not get out of. The Cougars rallied off four runs on five hits and never looked back. After taking the early lead the Cougar offense continued to shine, scoring 17 unanswered runs before a
Michael Luker RBI double got TIU on the board. SXU would eventually close out Game One with a 20-1 victory over the Trojans.
The second game of the afternoon saw aq much better performance from the Trojans, and that was thanks to the strong play of
Matt Latimer. The Junior set the table for TIU all game long, and went 3-5 in the leadoff spot.
With the game scoreless after four innings the Trojans found an offensive spark they had been looking for all day long.
Luis Henriquez,
Joel Stephenson, and
Andrew Johnson all registered RBI's to put TIU up 3-0.
Leading for the first time in the game the Trojans once again found themselves struggling to get out Cougar hitters, who rattled off 8 unanswered runs in the 5th and 6th innings.
Trailing 10-3 the Trojans continued to battle, scoring two runs in the 9th inning but the early deficit was too much to overcome, eventually falling 10-5 in game two.
TIU will host the Cougars on Monday for one 9 Inning game to cap off the season series vs. SXU.
