WHEELING, Ill. - Looking to bounce back after a tough weekend series against #22 St. Francis the TIU Softball team came up short against CCAC rival Judson University, falling 9-4 and 8-0 on Tuesday afternoon.
In the opening game of the day, the Eagles bats got off to a hot start in th opening innings. Judson scored three runs in the 1st Inning of the day, tallying back to back doubles to take an early 3-0 advantage.
Despite being down early the Trojan offense began to roll in the middle innings, scoring four runs of their own in 5th Inning. Junior
Jessica Vroman opened the scoring for TIU after knocking in an RBI single, while
Brooke Heraty drove in a run on an RBI groundout, while a
Sara Grygus RBi double gave TIU a 4-3 lead.
Judson continued to battle down the stretch, scoring six unanswered runs in the final two innings to close out a 9-4 win over the Trojans.
Game two saw the Trojans offense struggles return as Judson pitching help the Trojans to just two hits. With the game scoreless through three innings of play the Eagles began to chip away, scoring runs in the final four innings of the game to hand the Trojans their second loss of the day.
TIU will look to get back in the win column this Friday when they hit the road to take on Cardinal Stritch University in a mid day doubleheader.
