DEERFIELD, Ill. - In their home opener of the 2019 season the TIU Baseball team split in their opening two games in Deerfield, suffering a 12-0 loss in their first game of the day before defeating the Saints 4-3 in game two.
After suffering a tough loss in the opening game of the day the Trojans got things rolling in game two, en route to a 4-3 victory over Aquinas.
The Trojans were led by Junior
Skyler Jankowski, who fired a complete game for TIU, allowing 6 hits and just 1 earned run in the victory.
After getting down 3-0 early the Trojan offense got going in the middle innings, scoring a pair of runs in thr 4th innings.
Michael Luker took a fastball to the arm with the bases loaded drive in a run while Freshman
Eric Garcia had an RBI groundout to make it a 3-2 game.
After an Aquinas HR in the top of the 5th inning the Trojans showed their resiliency once again, this time off the bat of
Matt Pierson and
Stephen Didomizio. Pierson drove in
Matt Latimer to get within one run, while Didomizio followed it up with a 2-RBI single to give the Trojans a lead they would no relinquish.
TIU will look to mke it two wins in a row when they return home to take on Calumet St. Joseph on Saturday afternoon at 1 PM.
