ELGIN, Ill. - In pursuit of their first CCAC Tournament appearance since 2012 the TIU Baseball team earned a hard fought split with the Judson Eagles, falling in the opening game of the DH 6-1 before defeating JU 8-4 in game two on Wednesday afternoon.

After falling in the opening game of the series the Trojans once again showed the resilience they have all season, clawing back for a decisive 8-4 victory in game two.

Junior Mitch Apple was stellar on the mound for TIU, firing a complete game, throwing 9 innings and allowing just four hits and three earned runs in the victory.

After the Eagles opened with the games first run in the 1st Inning, the Trojan offense got rolling. Matt Pierson, Matt Latimer, and Lance Louchheim all delivered RBI singles to give the Trojans a  4-1 lead they would not relinquish.

Judson continued to battle down the stretch, but clutch insurance runs from Latimer, Pierson, and Joel Stepenson pushed the Trojans to a 8-4 victory.

The Trojans will look to continue their winning ways tomorrow when they host Roosevelt University in a doubleheader at home starting at 1 PM.
