Trojans Baseball drop pair of road games to USF

JOLIET, Ill. - With the regular season coming to a close the TIU Baseball suffered a pair of losses on Wednesday, falling 6-1 and 7-5 to the USF Saints at Route 66 Stadium.

In the opening game of the two game set the Trojans offense struggled to get things rolling early on. After registering only 4 hits in the game the Trojans struggled to keep pace with USF, who totaled 12 base hits and 6 runs in the victory.

The Saints opened the scoring with four straight runs in the first four innings before Emmanuel Andujar drove in yet another run, the only Trojan tally in a 6-1 defeat.

In game two of the two game slate the Trojans got a much better performance out of their offense. USF scored the opening two runs of the game through five inning sof play, but the Trojans showed their resiliency in the middle innings rallying for four unanswered runs to take a 4-2 lead.

RBI's from Blake Lazaris, Enyel Santana, and Mike Balistreri all gave drove in runs to put TIU head. After the Saints tied the game in the bottom of the 6th it was Andujar who continued his clutch hitting, driving and RBI single to left center field to give TIU the late lead.

Leading by one down the stretch the Trojans could not hang on to the late lead as USF rallied from behind yet again, tallying a trio of runs in the final two innings to close out a 7-5 victory.

The Trojans will now turn their attention to Robert Morris University as TIU will take on the Eagles in a three game weekend set over Friday and Saturday afternoon.
