SOUTH BEND, Ind. --- The Trinity International University men's basketball team battled the Indiana University South Bend Titans on the road on Saturday afternoon in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action. After a difficult loss to Trinity Christian at home on Wednesday night, TIU looked to focus their attention to a strong Titan team that entered the day ranked third in the CCAC standings.
The Trojans opened up the game keeping in step with the high-powered IU-South Bend offense with three-point shots from Nate Schmidt and Diamond Presniakovas. Unable to maintain solid control of the ball, TIU committed eight first half turnovers as the Titans shot a resounding 84% from the field in the first 20 minutes of play. Feeding Presniakovas inside the lane and from mid-range, TIU tried to match IU-South Bend in shooting, with little success. The Titan offense amassed a 60-29 halftime lead, thanks to seven three-point baskets.
IU-South Bend continued their solid shooting as both teams employed their benches in the second half of play. TIU struggled to find the basket like they had in the first half, shooting just 29% from the floor. The Titans dominated the game inside the paint, outscoring the Trojans 62-24 inside. The high scoring, high speed of the Titans would prove to be too much for TIU as the Trojans fell by a final score of 112-59.
In the loss, Presniakovas notched a game-high 21 points, along with four rebounds. It is the fourth game of 20 or more points for the Trojan freshman. Jeremy Bonifacio recorded eight points, while Thadeous Johnson was held to six.
The Trojans return to the floor on Monday, February 3Â as they welcome the Phantoms of East-West University to Van Dixhorn Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00PM.
