Trojans end regular season with win at CCSJ

WHITING, Ind. --- The Trinity International University women's basketball team played their final game of the 2019-2020 regular season on Saturday afternoon as they visited the Crimson Wave of Calumet College of St. Joseph in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action. With their seed locked in for the CCAC Tournament next week, TIU looked to build momentum towards next week's postseason opener, as well as earn their 18th win of the year.

Trinity got out to a fast start out of the gate and didn't look back as they opened up an early 12-4 lead in the first three and a half minutes. TIU was able to move the ball very well on the offensive side of the ball and find the bottom net with a high level of success from multiple areas of the floor. Alina Jahkne dominated from inside the paint and off the boards, recording her fourth double-double of the season with 20 points and 16 rebounds. Jahkne also notched four blocks in the game, putting her atop the conference in blocks and blocks per game.

Taylor Hibicke found herself at the free throw line 11 times during the day, sinking ten baskets from the charity strip in a game where the Trojans were able to force several fouls. Off the bench, Krystal Walker notched 12 points, while Dana Percival scored nine points as TIU dominated en route to the 76-62 win over the Crimson Tide.

With the victory, TIU ends the regular season with an 18-12 record, earning eligibility for the NCCAA postseason. A potential North-Central region playoff to determine an automatic bid to the NCCAA Tournament will be announced at a coming date if necessary.

The Trojans return to action as the seventh-seed in the CCAC Tournament, and will travel to play the Fighting Saints of the University of St. Francis on Tuesday, February 25 in their first postseason game since the 2012-2013 season. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00PM at the Sullivan Center in Joliet.
