Trojans defeat Spring Arbor; fall to Michigan-Dearborn

KISSIMMEE, Fla. --- The Trinity International University softball team continued their spring break play on Saturday afternoon at the Fortune Sports Athletic Complex as they battled the Spring Arbor University (MI) Cougars and the University of Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines. After dropping their first two games on Friday afternoon, TIU looked to rebound and win their first game since January 31.

In the opening game of the day, Alyssa Frey took to the mound seeking her first win in Florida. TIU backed up Frey's solid pitching performance with a three run, seven hit day, cracking the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning with Brooke Heraty driving in Dana Percival from second on an RBI single and advance.

Danielle Dayley would blow the game open for Trinity just one batter later as she launched her second career home run to left field for two additional runs. Frey would allow just four hits in the complete game performance as TIU swept to the 3-0 victory.

Later in the afternoon, Hailey Baker got the start for Trinity in search of her first win of the season. Baker would record one of her best outings of the young season notching eight strikeouts in seven innings of work. However, the Trojans would struggle to put runners on base through the first five innings of play.

The Wolverines would put runners at second and third base in the top of the sixth inning before Madelin Skene's pinch hit home run put three runs on the board for UMD. Michigan-Dearborn would add another run in the seventh as the Trojans dropped the game by a final score of 4-0.

TIU returns to action on Monday, March 2 as they take on the Siena Heights University (MI) Saints at 2:45PM (EST) and the Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcats at 5:00PM (EST).
