DAVENPORT, Iowa --- After earning their first conference win of the season on Wednesday night, the TIU men's basketball team visited the Saint Ambrose Fighting Bees in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action on Saturday afternoon at Lee Lohman Arena.
Facing off against one of the CCAC's top teams, the Trojans let the long range shots fly with six first half three-point baskets finding the bottom of the next compared to SAU's three. TIU's shooting from distance didn't deter the Bees however, who found their groove offensively in the paint.
Trinity struggled to rebound the ball throughout the afternoon, allowing Saint Ambrose easy opportunities for second chance points, after giving up 14 offensive rebounds to the Bees. The Trojans were able to force seven second half turnovers and cut their 11-point halftime deficit down to just one with a Johnathan Johansson three with 7:11 to go, but couldn't keep up with the hot SAU shooting performance, snapping Trinity's two game winning streak, 92-81.
Brandon Lawani led the game with 30 points, five rebounds and two blocks in the loss. Johansson drained six three-point shots for 20 points, while Brandon McQueen scored 11 points with three steals.
