WHITING, Ind. --- The TIU women's volleyball team took the short trip to northwest Indiana on Thursday night as they took on the Crimson Wave of Calumet St. Joseph in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play. Coming off an impressive win at Olivet Nazarene on Tuesday night, the Trojans looked to carry their momentum into another conference matchup.
Calumet would challenge Trinity early in each set, but it would be the Trojans who would jump ahead quickly after a slow start. Riding a 5-0 run in the middle of the first set, Matty Hawkins and Madison Williams would help push their team's way through the opening frame, winning 25-16.
Aided by seven CCSJ errors, TIU's offense continued to roll in the second set with 15 total kills en route to a 25-20 win. In the third, Trinity continued to attack on offense with another impressive performance, scoring 17 points off the kill. With good setup and execution, the Trojans would take the third frame 25-20 to secure the 3-0 sweep and pick up their second victory of the week.
Hawkins and Brianna Torres both led the way for the TIU attack with 11 kills and three blocks each. Setter Anna Skrzypchak posted 35 assists in the win, with eight from Madison Feagans. Williams and Desirae Pisano would notch both of Trinity's service aces, while Jaylyn Freeman anchored the Trojan defense with 11 digs.
