BANNOCKBURN, Ill. --- The TIU women's soccer team faced a tough challenge on Wednesday afternoon as they hosted the Crimson Wave of Calumet College of St. Joseph at Schartner Field in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action. With much of Trinity's roster out due to COVID-19 protocols, the Trojans took the field shorthanded, looking to hold off CCSJ and stay alive in the hunt for conference postseason contention.
With just seven total players on the field, the Trojans spent much of the afternoon on defense, looking to capitalize off turnovers and quality passes to excel offensively. Calumet struck first as Monica Clemente scored in the 12th minute unassisted for the early lead. Trinity answers back nine minutes later in the 21st minute as Kailynd Tubb found the back of the net on a pass from Payton Siragusa for the equalizer.
Just over a minute later, Emily Soriaga scored in the 22nd minute to give TIU their first lead of the day on an unassisted goal. April Mendoza would put CCSJ back in front by a goal with consecutive unassisted goals in the 28th and 41st minutes, giving the Crimson Wave a 3-2 lead at halftime.
Siragusa would tie things up in the 52nd minute, scoring unassisted seven minutes into the second half. TIU would spend much of the half on defense, only getting four shot attempts in their attacking zone in the final 45 minutes of play. Calumet would break through late as Mia Clavelli scored the game-winning goal in the 87th minute, handing Trinity the tough 4-3 loss.
