BANNOCKBURN, Ill. --- The TIU women's soccer team returned home to Schartner Field on Saturday afternoon as they took on the Jaguars of Governors State University in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action. After more than a week away from the pitch, the Trojans looked to close the season out strong, and keep their postseason hopes alive in the final match of the 2021 regular season.
TIU and Governors State would remain scoreless for nearly 20 minutes, until Kate Jung broke the scoreless tie late in the 19th minute with a go-ahead goal on an assist by Morgan Busick. It would be the only score of the first half as Trinity entered the halftime break leading 1-0.
Kailynd Tubb doubled TIU's lead in the 61st minute as Busick again found her teammate for the assist as Tubb slipped the ball past Jaguars goalkeeper Gaby Smola. GSU would respond quickly just three minutes later as Anyssa Pazmino put the Jaguars on the board to cut the lead in half at 2-1.Â
In the 70th minute, Breanna Bembenek would tie the match with a goal thanks to an assist by Veronica Davila, setting up an intense final 20 minutes of regulation. After a missed shot attempt by TIU, Bembenek would answer on the opposite end of the field with the go-ahead score late in the 87th minute on an assist from Daisey Bonilla, allowing Governors State to come from behind for the 3-2 win over the Trojans.
