BANNOCKBURN, Ill. --- Following a week away from competition, the TIU women's volleyball team returned home to Van Dixhorn Arena on Tuesday night as they hosted the Lakers of Roosevelt University in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play. Coming off a tough loss at first place IU-South Bend a week ago, the Trojans looked to bounce back and maintain their position in the league standings.
TIU and Roosevelt would engage in a difficult back-and-forth opening set before Trinity broke through with a 4-0 run aided by kills by Brianna Torres and Nadia Wheeler. The Trojans would take advantage of Laker errors throughout the night, jumping ahead and holding off a late Roosevelt rally to win the first set 25-23.
In the second frame, TIU would again have to rally after a slow start, but didn't trail for long with an impressive stat line with 16 team kills and just three errors. With the ability to place their attacks in the back corners of the court, the Trojans were able to take the second set 25-19.
Trinity put on another strong performance in the third set, opening on a 14-4 run. Despite Roosevelt being able to crawl back within five points, the Trojans closed strong with Jazmin Coronado providing a clutch service ace, and Madison Williams putting the final touch on the evening with a cross court kill to give TIU the 25-18 win, and the three-set sweep over the Lakers.
Torres led all attackers with 18 total kills, plus a match-high 11 digs. Setter Anna Skrzypchak posted an impressive 35 assists in the win, as well as ten digs. Williams posted a pair of blocks of the nets, while Wheeler and Grace Mauersberger each recorded one as well. Coronado would end the night with two crucial aces to lead all Trojans.
