ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. --- The TIU men's basketball team hit the road on Saturday afternoon as they battled the Roosevelt Lakers in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action. Coming off a win over Judson on Wednesday night, the Trojans looked to extend their win streak to four games.
The Lakers jumped out to an early lead in the first half before Jack Kahoun tied the game with a three at 13, and Brandon McQueen gave TIU the lead with another shot from beyond the arc. Trinity would maintain, and ultimately extend their lead as the day went on, with the offense running through McQueen, who sank three baskets from distance. Jonathan Johansson also helped pad the Trojan lead going eight-for-eight from the free throw line as TIU opened up a 45-38 lead heading into the locker room.Â
Brandon Lawani found his groove in the second half as he notched 15 points in the period, as well as seven rebounds. TIU's defense forced 18 turnovers in the game and recorded nine steals, while Roosevelt struggled to stay out of foul trouble, allowing Trinity to produce nearly a third of their offense at the free throw line. With 57% shooting from the floor and ten total three-pointers, the Trojan offense cruised in the second half to a 20-point victory, 94-74.
McQueen led TIU with 27 points and eight assists in the win, with Lawani notching a 21 point, 11 rebound double-double with three blocked shots. Johnasson ended the day with 14 points, while Diamond Presniakovas scored 12.
