MILWAUKEE, Wisc. --- The TIU men's soccer team visited the defending Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) champion Wolves of Cardinal Stritch on Wednesday afternoon in conference play at the Bavarian Soccer Complex. Both teams entered today's game with a 2-0 mark with wins over the same two teams.

Cardinal Stritch, the lone CCAC team receiving votes in the NAIA top 25 poll, dominated possession in the first half, but were denied a goal as the Trinity defense held firm in the opening 45 minutes. While TIU managed to keep the Wolves off the scoreboard, they themselves struggled to find their rhythm offensively, with only four shots taken in the first half as both teams went to the halftime break scoreless.

CSU would break the tie in the 54th minute on a penalty kick by Jonathan Waldenstroem to give the Wolves the lead. Markus Hegermann would score just six minutes later, as would Salvador Nunez, netting a goal past Wentzel in the 82nd minute to give Cardinal Stritch the 3-0 win, and hand TIU their first loss of the season. 

ADDITIONAL GAME NOTES

• With Wednesday's loss, the Trojans falls to 3-12-1 all-time against Cardinal Stritch. It is TIU's tenth loss in their last 11 meetings with the Wolves with a scoreless tie in 2017.

• Trinity was outshot 23-10 by Cardinal Stritch, and 12-5 in shots on goal.

• TIU's last shutout loss came against CSU last season on Oct. 1, 2019, with the Wolves defeating Trinity 6-0 at Schartner Field in Deerfield.

• Despite allowing three goals, TIU goalkeeper Andre Wentzel recorded a career-high nine saves, including eight in the first half.

• Trenton Garside notched four of TIU's ten shots in the loss, including three of their five shots on goal.
