TIU sweeps Lancers in doubleheader

GRAYSLAKE, Ill. --- The Trojan softball team continued their non-conference slate of games on Wednesday as they visited the Lancers of the College of Lake County. Coming off a doubleheader split at Bethel (IN) last Saturday, the Trojans looked to use Wednesday's games as an opportunity to put together solid at bats before the start of league play later next week.

The Trojans quickly jumped out to an early lead as Britney Knox knocked in two runs on a single, while Waverly Miller scored Knox in her first at bat of the afternoon. Kristin Storer continued her strong start to the season with a triple in the top of the second to score Hailey Baker, while Dana Percivl and Heather Anderson helped drive in four more runs as TIU totaled 11 hits off Lancer starter Jaylee Pfau. Alyssa Frey would pitch five scoreless innings giving up just one hit with no walks and nine strikeouts en route to an 8-0 win in five innings.

In game two, Hailey Baker took to the mound looking to post consecutive pitching wins for the first time this season. Anderson opened up the scoring for Trinity in the second inning with an RBI single to score Percival from second base. Gina Loy would begin her strong performance in game two with an RBI in the very next at bat with a single to left field to score Miller. After a Storer single to third base, Anderson would score to give TIU a 3-0 lead after two innings.

After Knox reached home plate on a fielder's choice play, and Miller scored again on another Anderson single, Loy launched a triple to center field for her second of three RBI's on the day to make it a 6-0 game. Lauren Neveau would record her own triple an inning later and Knox would ground out to score two more runs in the fourth for the Trojans. Loy and Frey capped the afternoon with a ground out to the shortstop and single to left field respectively as TIU rolled to the 10-0 win in five innings. Baker would strike out nine Lancer batters, allowing just three hits and one walk in her five full innings of work.
