ELGIN, Ill.. --- The Trojan baseball team travelled to the western suburbs on Friday and Saturday as they faced the Judson Eagles in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play. After Wednesday's conference opener was suspended at Saint Xavier, the Trojans looked to pick up their first wins in CCAC action.
In Friday's lone game, Sam Willis got the start on the mound to begin the three game series. Trinity got on the board early with Blake Lazaris and Matt Pierson scoring on a two RBI single in the top of the first. Judson would score three runs in both the third and fifth innings before the Trojans would strike again. In the sixth, Luis Henriquez notched a single, followed by an Andrew Johnson double, allowing Noah Waltz to drive his two teammates on base with a single to center field.
After a Julius Torres walk, Pierson drove a double to right center to tie the game at six. While Waltz was able to drive in one more Trojan run on a fielder's choice in the eighth, the Eagles would tie the game on a solo home run by Adam Zeratsky off of reliever Ian Ryan, and win the game on a walk-off RBI single by Alec Spang to hand the Trojans the 8-7 loss.
Saturday's doubleheader was originally scheduled to be played at the TIU Baseball Field, but relocated to Judson due to field conditions with Trinity remaining as the designated home team. Kurtis Sippy took the mound in game one of the seven inning doubleheader, coming off a win in his last outing at Johnson (TN). In the low scoring affair, it would be all Judson as the Eagles scored in the first inning on a two-run single by Tommy Moran.
Zeratsky would give JU another run as he scored from third base on a wild pitch.Zeratsky would cross home plate once more in the seventh on an error after Willis dropped a fly ball in left field. The Trojans were held to just three hits and committed two field errors as they dropped the first game of the afternoon, 4-0.
TIU would send Waltz to mound to start the second game of the day, looking to provide the Trojans with a spark to end the series. Judson's bats remained hot, coming off their finish from the previous game, scoring seven runs off nine hits against Waltz in three and two-thirds innings of work.
Trinity would crack the scoreboard in the sixth inning as Jalen Austin flew out to center field, scoring Lazaris on the sacrifice. TIU would get their only other run of the game in the seventh as Willis hit a pinch hit home run with one out. The Judson offense would be too much for the Trojans however as the Eagles dominated early, rolling past TIU, 18-2.
