Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Trojans fall short in road loss to Holy Cross

NOTRE DAME, Ind. --- The TIU men's soccer team travelled to northern Indiana on Wednesday afternoon as they visited the Saints of Holy Cross College in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action. Coming off a 1-0 loss at Trinity Christian in their previous match eight days ago, the Trojans looked eager to snap their three-match losing streak against a quality conference opponent.

The Saints started off holding possession of the ball fairly well through the first few minutes, but both teams would face multiple fouls, which would ultimately see Jonny Mueller finding his way to the penalty spot for the Trojans. Mueller would find the back of the net for Trinity, giving the blue and white a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute.

From there on it would be all Holy Cross as the Saints would have multiple shots in the first half, setting up Jeffrey Rafter for a goal in the 36th minute to even the match at one. Just three minutes later, Gabe Nyenka would put his name in the books for the Saints for the 2-1 lead against the Trojans as he slipped his shot past TIU goalkeeper Andre Wentzel on an assist from Jeffrey Harper.

The second half would show similar results as the first with the Saints holding early possession, but racking up eight fouls in the first ten minutes. The Trojans would give up a corner kick to Holy Cross and set up Raymond Giang for a header into the back of the nets for the 3-1 lead in the 63rd minute. The Trojans would try to find a way back into the match, but could only muster two shots in the half and ultimately falling 3-1 to the Saints.
