CRESTWOOD, Ill. --- The Trojan baseball team returned to action on Tuesday night as they took on the Roosevelt Lakers at Ozinga Field in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play. After dropping a doubleheader at Olivet Nazarene last weekend, the Trojans looked to bounce back against the Lakers.
Dominik Olech got the start for TIU on the mound in his fifth pitching appearance of the season. After giving up a single run in the bottom of the first inning, the Trojan defense held Roosevelt scoreless for the next three frames, thanks to seven total strikeouts on the day for Olech and eight fly outs.
The Lakers would score once in the bottom of the fifth and once in the seventh off of reliever Christian Mackenzie. Trinity would crack the scoreboard in the bottom of the eighth with Zorion Pullen scoring on an RBI single to left field by Samuel Edington. Blaze Lazaris would follow up Edington's base hit with a two-run double to center, scoring pinch runner Noah Waltz and Julius Torres to tie the game at three a piece.
With no change in the score after nine innings, the game went into extra frames, with TIU striking first as Jalen Austin drove home Matt Pierson and Lazaris to put Trinity up 5-3. While Jio Ledesma would give up a two out, solo home run to the Lakers in relief in the bottom of the tenth, he would strike out Roosevelt's final batter to pick up the win and secure the extra innings win for the Trojans.
