BANNOCKBURN, Ill. --- With the final full week of the regular season quickly approaching, the TIU softball team welcomed the Titans of IU-South Bend to campus on Friday afternoon for a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) doubleheader. Having lost their last five games, the Trojans looked to bounce back at home with just ten conference games remaining on the schedule.
Hailey Baker would start game one for Trinity, looking to snap her recent two game losing streak as a starting pitcher. After the Titans scored two runs in the top of the first inning, TIU's defense would keep them in check for the next four innings. While Baker would strike out five and allow just one walk, the Trojans struggled to find an offensive response.Â
IU-South Bend would score a third run in the top of the sixth before TIU cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning, as Kristin Storer doubled to right field to lead off the frame before scoring on a Britney Knox RBI single to center field. That would unfortunately be all the offense Trinity could put together, as they would drop game one by a final of 3-1.
In game two, Alyssa Frey took the mound, looking to provide a spark for Trinity after a tough loss. While Frey limited allowing batters to reach base on balls, the Titans swung away for 14 total hits in the game scoring 11 runs.Â
IUSB scored four in the first inning, followed by one in the fourth, two in the fifth, and their final four in the seventh. While the Trojans were able to make better contact against Titans starting pitcher Aly Brickel and only limit themselves to two strikeouts, they found their scoring opportunities very limited with 16 groundouts as TIU dropped game two 11-0.
