WHEELING, Ill. --- The TIU men's soccer team returned home on Monday afternoon as they hosted the Lakers of Roosevelt University at the Heritage Park Sports Complex in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action. Coming off a tough 5-3 road loss at Judson over the weekend, the Trojans looked to get back on track with a much needed win entering the final week of the regular season.
The game started off even as both teams held possession well and found good opportunities, but the Lakers would strike first after a shot from Gerardo Flores that would find the back of the net past goalkeeper Daniel Hill for the 1-0 lead in the 29th minute. Trinity would only have four shots in the half while the Lakers had ten as the Trojans went into half trailing by one.
The second half of action started similar to the first, but ten minutes in, Nathan Patterson would be called for a foul in the penalty area for a Lakers penalty kick. Eduardo Hernandez would step up to the spot and put the goal away for a 2-0 Roosevelt lead. The Trojans would fight their way back into the game in the half on offense, taking 16 shots to the Laker's five.Â
TIU would get a huge opportunity to get back a goal when Josiah Fuchs would get fouled in the penalty area for the penalty kick in the 67th minute. Sophomore Jonny Mueller would step up to take the kick but Laker goalkeeper Lukas Palmas would make the save and get bombarded by three more shots from multiple Trojans, but Trinity would not be able to find the back of the net, falling 2-0 to Roosevelt.
