Baker's one-hit shutout leads Trinity past Judson

ELGIN, Ill. --- The TIU softball team wrapped up the 2021 regular season on Monday afternoon as they visited the Judson Softball Complex in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) doubleheader. Coming off a home sweep of Lincoln College last Friday, the Trojans looked to finish the season with momentum ahead of the CCAC Tournament slated to begin later this week.

Senior Hailey Baker took the mound for the final regular season start of her collegiate career. The right-hander dominated the Eagles lineup with just one hit allowed throughout the entire ball game, carrying a no-hit bid into the seventh inning. Trinity would get a number of scoring opportunities early, but failed to capitalize on them, forcing the game into extra innings thanks to solid defensive play.

In the top of the eighth, the Trojans broke through with Britney Knox reaching base with a leadoff single to left center field. A Dana Percival double to center would advance Knox to third before Brooke Heraty drove in the go-ahead run on an RBI single to right. TIU would allow one base runner on an infield error in the bottom of the inning, but would allow no other runners en route to a 1-0, one hit shutout.

Due to rain, game two of the doubleheader was suspended in the bottom of the fourth inning with TIU leading 6-0. The game will not be rescheduled.
