UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill. --- The TIU women's volleyball team hit the road on Tuesday night as they visited the Governors State Jaguars in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action at the Athletics-Recreation Center. Coming off a 3-0 loss at St. Francis (IL) on Saturday night, the Trojans looked to bounce back and earn their third conference win of the early season.
Governors State would jump out to a quick lead in the opening set, but the Trojans would rebound thanks to key attacks from Brianna Torres and Matty Hawkins to tighten things up. Thanks to an 11-4 Trinity run, the blue and white would jump ahead and take the first set, 25-16.
In the second, both teams would wraggle back and forth in another close set. TIU would post their best performance of the night with 14 team kills and just two attack errors en route to a close 25-21 win to go up two sets to none. In the third, aided by a 9-1 run that featured Torres and Hawkins on the attack, plus a pair of service aces from Emma Gallegos and Torres, the Trojans jumped out to a quick seven point lead. From there, Trinity would shut down the Jaguar defense, holding GSU to just six kills and forcing five attack errors as the Trojans would take the third set 25-16, and win the match in straight sets.
Torres would end the night with a game-high 16 kills, while Nadia Wheeler posted seven on the attack. Anna Skrzypchak recorded 33 assists in the win, while Jaylyn Freeman led the TIU defense with 17 digs, plus a pair of service aces. Gallegos would also post a game-high three aces in the victory.
