Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Freeman earns 2,000th dig as TIU extends streak to five wins

ST. LOUIS, Mo. --- The TIU women's volleyball team wrapped up their weekend road trip in St. Louis on Saturday as they took on the Iowa Wesleyan Wildcats and Friends University Falcons on the second day of the UHSP. Coming off a pair of wins over Cottey (MO) and host UHSP, the Trojans looked to continue their run of success over the past week and pick up another set of wins.

In Trinity's opening match against Iowa Wesleyan, the Trojans dominated from start to finish, not allowing the Wildcats to score more than nine points in the first two sets to jump out to a commanding 2-0 lead. Iowa Wesleyan would challenge the Trojans in the third, TIU's overwhelming offensive power in their service game and ability to set up a strong attack helped propel the Trojans to victory in the third frame, 25-20 to finish of the three-set sweep.

Matty Hawkins and Brianna Torres would lead Trinity with seven kills each, plus five for Jazmin Coronado. Lana Vujosevic notched five service aces in the win as Madison Williams recorded two total blocks. TIU setters Anna Skrzypchak and Madison Feagans were held to just eight and seven assists respectively due to TIU's strong service game. Torres led TIU defensively in the win with nine digs.

After rolling past Iowa Wesleyan, the Trojans faced a bit more of a challenge as they took on Friends in their tournament finale. TIU would jump out to a two set lead, but the Falcons would come out strong in the third with 21 team kills to force Trinity into their first match past three sets in the tournament. However, the Trojans quickly put the third set loss behind them, as they posted a strong 16 kill fourth set with no attack errors to close out the afternoon with a 3-1 match win, and to end the undefeated weekend with the program's fifth consecutive win.

Torres notched 21 kills in the four-set victory over Friends, while Vujosevic recorded another three service aces. Senior Grace Mauersberger posted an impressive seven total blocks in the win, as Skrzypchak notched 51 assists. Defensively Jaylyn Freeman recorded 24 digs.
