LAKE FOREST, Ill. --- One night after taking down conference rival Judson at home, the TIU women's volleyball team took the eight mile drive up the road to nearby Lake Forest as they took on the NCAA Division III Foresters of Lake Forest College in non-conference action. Seeking their seventh consecutive wins, the Trojans were eager to build off of last night's success and carry it onto the road.
The Trojans and Foresters kicked things off with a hotly contested opening set of play. After being tied for much of the set, Trinity used a 4-0 run to break the deadlock, and eventually pulled away for a 25-17 first set victory. On a night where the TIU offense flexed its muscles, the blue and white jumped out to a quick 9-2 lead in the second set. While Lake Forest was able to pull within one point, the Trojans closed strong thanks to a service ace by Lana Vujosevic, a Grace Mauersberger kill, and three Forester attack errors to win the second frame, 25-19.
In the third, Trinity again looked in control for much of the set, but quickly saw Lake Forest crawl back into contention, tying the set at 23 all. It would be the Trojans who again would finish strong with the final two points of the night on a Forester error and Brianna Torres kill to win the final set 25-23 and sweep Lake Forest.
Torres led the night for TIU with 17 kills, a game-high four service aces, and two blocks. Matty Hawkins and Mauersberger also chipped in two blocks for Trinity up front at the net. Setter Anna Skrzypchak notched 36 assists in the win, while Madeline Trippett and Vujosevic posted 12 and ten digs respectively.
