Trojans lose fight to the Tigers in Saturday night clash

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. — Saturday night Trinity battled under the lights against conference rival Olivet Nazarene University. The Trojans fought hard against the Tigers who sit at the top of the conference, but ultimately fell 2-5.

On their heels early, the TIU back line and keeper were tested early as Olivet took their first shots within the opening three minutes. The Trojans would hold firm for another eight minutes before the Tigers broke through with the opening goal in the 12th minute. From the kick off, Trinity immediately grabbed possession and senior Abigail Olsson buried the tying goal from a ball by senior Cresencia Kerr just over a minute later. The tie score would hold while Olivet maintained the majority of possession until they scored their second and third goals before the first half concluded.

After the halftime break, the Trojans struggled to gain any offensive footing as the Tigers brought it down the field and laced shot after shot towards TIU's keeper, Sarah Davis. An unfortunate handball inside the penalty box led to the Tiger's fourth goal in the 50th minute to lead the Trojans 4-1. Another twenty minutes later and Trinity had their first answer for Olivet as Olsson nabbed her second goal of the game, this time assisted by junior Morgan Busick. Still searching for sustained offensive pressure, the Trojans battled to maintain possession outside of their defensive half. The final blow came in the 77th minute as the Tigers scored their fifth goal. TIU picked up the intensity in the remaining ten minutes, earning two corner kicks and two shots on goal that the Tiger defense blocked before they could pose a threat.

Senior goalkeeper Sarah Davis earned another 90 minutes in goal while notching seven saves while Abigail Olsson earned a brace on the day. Olsson's goals bring her to six on the season for a team leading 16 total points. Morgan Busick provided the final assist on the day for her fourth of the season as Cresencia Kerr earned her first.

The Trojans (3-9-1, 2-6) are back at home on Wednesday afternoon for another CCAC match-up against the Fighting Saints of the University of St. Francis. Kick off is scheduled for 3:00pm at Schartner Field.
