BANNOCKBURN, Ill.. — Yesterday afternoon the Trojans gathered on Schartner Field for their final non-conference match-up of the season where they honored 11 senior members of the program for their contributions throughout their careers. Much better weather and favorable result than their previous outing on Schartner two days ago, the Trojans walked away with a 4-0 victory over the Sabrecats of Maranatha Baptist University.
The Trojans offense took off at the whistle as they established possession quickly and flicked a shot towards goal within two minutes of play from the head of Jamin Kuepfer as a cross was sent into the penalty area. Trojan forwards Xavier Brown, and Trenton Garside were relentless in their pressure as they gave chase to through balls and sailed shots towards the Sabrecats keeper. Brown drew first blood in the 13th minute after pouncing on a rebound from a Garside shot and Sabrecat save. The determined Trinity offense held possession and momentum throughout the majority of the ensuing minutes until they finally broke through again with less than a minute remaining in the half as Jesus Ramos found Jonny Mueller to add a second goal to the scoreboard.Â
Again off to a quick start, Mueller and Brown fired off shots in the opening minutes of the second half before Maqiis Haywood joined the scorebook with a goal in the 51st minute, assisted by Alberto Mendoza. Throughout the remainder of the half the Trojans would maintain the vast majority of possession while peppering the Sabrecat goal area with shots left and right, forcing the goaltender to come through for his team six different times. With fifteen minutes remaining, TIU notched their final goal of the game as Mueller tapped the ball into the near post corner off a service from Haywood.
A dominant performance from the Trojans produced 33 shots, with almost half on frame while goalkeeper Armin Mahmutovic was tested just twice. Seniors Noah Kemp and Dalen Baldridge received their first start of the season among the senior-ladened starting lineup for the Trojans in honor of the occasion.
