Trojans fall to Wolves in CCAC Tournament

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. — Yesterday afternoon the Trojans crossed the northern border for their first berth into the CCAC playoffs since 2016. Taking on the Wolves of Cardinal Stritch in a game that saw a brief interruption due to lightning, the Trojans were unable to grab the redemption they sought from their previous match-up with the Wolves and fell once again, 0-4.

The Trojans were on their heels from the start, unable to muster any offensive pressure and instead defending as the Wolves took the first shots and corner kick of the game. Cardinal Stritch drew first blood in the 12th minute of the game to take the lead, 0-1. From there, Trinity tightened their defensive unit and looked to regroup offensively as well to grab the equalizer. Unfortunately, all the Trojans would be able to create in the first half was a lone shot and corner kick that were easily stifled by the Wolves' keeper to enter the second half behind by one.

Coming out with momentum, Cardinal Stritch quickly grabbed their second goal in the 50th minute. Feeling the pressure of their season slipping away, emotions began boiling over on the Trojan side as the first caution card of four was handed out shortly after the second goal. Timely for the Trojans, a lightning delay was given and the team had a chance to regroup while waiting the half hour requirement. The break would turn out to be unsuccessful  as upon play resuming the Wolves would go on to net two additional goals while holding the Trojans to just two shots on goal.

With yesterday's defeat, the Trojans(9-8-1) have been eliminated from the conference tournament and a chance at postseason within the NAIA, but still have hope within their dual affiliation, the National Christian College Athletics Association (NCCAA). The Trojans will wait to see who their NCCAA North Central Region opponent may be. As things stand, they could face Judson University and/or Greenville University depending on how their conference tournament prospects play out. There is no date set for the game, but it is to be held prior to November 19th.
