Walk off double secures victory for Trojans in extra innings

WHEELING, Ill. --- Yesterday afternoon the Trojans hosted their first home game of the 2022 season at Heritage Park against CCAC opponent, Lincoln College. It took one extra inning, but the Trojans came out on top to defeat the Lynx 8-7.

After a solid start on defense, the Trojans scored two runs in the opening inning by capitalizing on pitching mistakes and fielding errors. Holding a 2-0 lead, Trinity added another run in the bottom of the third inning when Ridley Edington reached first by an error at shortstop and Samuel Edington used the opportunity to cross home plate.

At the top of the fourth inning, the Lynx put two on the board but the Trojans quickly answered with another of their own, bringing the score to 4-2 at the start of the fifth. An error by Trinity allowed another run for Lincoln which cut their lead to one run. At the top of the seventh inning the Lynx rallied again with a double and two triples, bringing three runs home and taking the lead, 4-6.

Up to bat in the bottom of the eighth, Ethan Oskroba doubled to bring two runs in, tie the game and force extra innings after both teams were out at bat. After a sacrifice fly, the Lynx took a one run lead in the top of the tenth and the Trojans needed to answer to keep the game alive. With Blake Lazaris placed at second, Seth Lewallen singled and Lazaris ran home on the play. Up next, Ridley Edington hit a walk-off double to end the game and secure the Trojan victory, 8-7.
