Trojans swept by Lakers in CCAC doubleheader

DEERFIELD, Ill. --- Earlier this afternoon the TIU Trojans faced the Lakers of Roosevelt University in another Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader. Trinity struggled defensively in both games and the Lakers converted on key chances to sweep the Trojans in the doubleheader.

Game One: TIU 3, Roosevelt 9
Starting off with solid defense, the Trojans held Roosevelt to two scoreless innings before both teams turned it up at the plate to open the scoring.

At the top of the third inning, the Lakers scored two runs. Trinity took their at bat and nabbed four hits to score three runs at the bottom of the inning. Meghan Ramseyer led off for the Trojans with a single, followed by another by Hailey Kuriger. Gina Loy stepped up to the plate with a bases loaded situation and earned an RBI before Paige Hintz hit a single to bring in another. Josie Nelson hit a single to left field to bring Loy across the plate and give the Trojans a 3-2 lead.


A couple of Trojan errors in the top of the fourth aided the Lakers in scoring four runs to retake the lead, 3-6.


Holding the Trojans to three batters in the bottom of the fourth, Roosevelt was back at the plate quickly and scored another run after an RBI triple.


The Lakers secured two more runs in the top of the sixth, bringing the score to 3-9.


Trinity was held scoreless in the sixth and seventh innings and was defeated by Roosevelt.

 
Game Two: TIU 2, Roosevelt 11
Roosevelt took an early lead in the first inning before the game went quiet for an inning and a half as both pitchers held the opposing team to minimal batters.

The Lakers increased their lead to 0-3 in the top of the third, taking advantage of pitching mistakes.


TIU answered in the bottom of the third inning with two runs after a Hailey Kuriger took a hard pitch to earn her base and Britney Knox followed her with an RBI double. With Knox on second, Brooke Heraty hit a single to bring her back to the bench, trailing by one run.


At the top of the fourth inning, Trinity struggled defensively as the Lakers collected six hits and converted for seven runs, increasing their lead 2-10.


The Trojans were held to three batters in the bottom of the fourth.


After a pitching change, Trinity needed a big defensive push in the top of the fifth to hold the Lakers from further runs for a chance to rally in the final inning. Roosevelt scored one more in the fifth and held strong defensively, allowing TIU just two hits without scoring to sweep the doubleheader.

 
Up Next:
The Trojans (3-22, 3-17) wrap up their regular season on Friday, April 29th as they host Trinity Christian College for Senior Day. Opening pitch is scheduled for 3:00pm and will be streamed on the Trojan Sports Network.
