WHITING, Ind. --- Late yesterday evening the Trojans traveled to Calumet College of St. Joseph for another Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader. Ultimately dropping both games, the Trojans kept both outings within reach until the end when the Crimson Wave pulled away with the sweep.

Game One: TIU 4, Calumet St. Joseph 5
Calumet earned the first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning on a sacrifice fly.
Both teams played tight defense through the fifth inning, allowing minimal batters and making the routine plays.
In the top of the sixth inning, Luis Henriquez singled on a bunt before Blake Lazaris hit a sacrifice bunt to advance Henriquez. A single by Andrew Johnson and Samuel Edington combined to bring Henriquez back to the dugout. Ridley Edington hit a sacrifice fly into center field for an RBI and gave the Trojans a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the inning, Calumet tied the game.
Retaking the lead, Trinity scored two more runs in the top of the seventh inning. Alfonso Gomez nabbed his first career double and Henriquez was walked when Blake Lazaris stepped up to the plate. Lazaris grounded out to third base, but earned 2 RBI on the play as Gomez and Henriquez crossed the plate.
The Trojans entered the bottom of the seventh with a 4-2 lead, needing to play solid defense to hold off the Crimson Wave. Unfortunately, the inning got off to a rough start with two consecutive Trojan errors followed by a wild pitch that advanced the runners into scoring position. Calumet connected at the plate for 2 RBI before later capitalizing on another error to score the winning run.

Game Two: TIU 1, Calumet St. Joseph 6
Despite two walks in the first inning, Trinity was unable to convert on the scoreboard in the first inning.
Calumet notched three hits and three runs to take the early lead and continue their momentum from game one.
Leading off in the top of the second, Ethan Oskroba singled to left field to start the Trojan offense. Ridley Edington walked shortly after and with a runner in scoring position, Trinity hoped to turn the corners but failed to leave the plate.
Holding the Crimson Wave to three batters, TIU took the plate again. After striking out the first two at bats, Jose Matos stepped up to the plate and sailed a home run into right field for the Trojan's first run. Samuel Edington and Ethan Oskroba followed with singles before Brady Popovich walked to load the bases. With two outs from early in the inning, the Trojans were unable to keep the offensive momentum and returned to the field again.
At the bottom of the fourth inning, Calumet scored another run to increase their lead to 4-1.
The fifth, sixth and seventh innings were scoreless with minimal offensive action by both sides as only one hit was recorded.
Alfonso Gomez singled to right field then stole base to put himself in scoring position, but unfortunately would be left on base at the top of the eight inning.
The Crimson Wave collected two hits and two runs in the bottom of the eighth, growing their lead 6-1.
Blake Lazaris looked to start the Trojan offense again as he led off with a double to center field, but was ultimately left on base as the Crimson Wave secured the next three outs and swept the doubleheader.
